Vinnie LaRocca

Vinnie LaRocca

Jersey native Vinnie LaRocca always knew what Exit he was from; unfortunately, nobody across state lines knew what that meant. So, he decided to make a name for himself…. Vinnie sat behind his father’s kit, and quickly became a second generation drummer. He worked his craft and when he discovered Axis pedals, he discovered the smooth feel that would forever transform his playing style. Growing up in the shadow of Manhattan has eclipsed many artists, but Vinnie continues to thrive in the shadows and is now the drummer for New York City’s premiere Hi-Fi Sci-Fi Hard Rock Band, Atom Strange. Vinnie longs to push down the pedals on a John Deere mower, but until then, he continues to throttle his Axis pedals.

Ruston Grosse

Ruston Grosse

Ruston Grosse has been playing professionally within the Extreme Metal scene for 11 years having had the opportunity at a young age to open for such acts as Hate Eternal, Arch Enemy, Origin, Nile, Hypocrisy, Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, Fintroll, Enslaved and many others. He has been touring for 6 years now as a member or session musician in various outfits such as noise rock band Satanized, Candlelight recording artists Woe and Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, as well as headlining as a touring member on several occasions for the seminal death metal act, Master who have been around for over 30 years. He has toured with Mayhem, Keep of Kalessin, Hate, and Abigail Williams as a member of Woe and is featured on their newest record, “Withdrawal” out now on Candlelight Records. He is currently a member of epic metal/ prog rock band Surgeon and is featured on their newest album, “Chemical Reign” not only as the drummer but as a backup vocalist as well.
Ruston is known throughout the extreme metal community for his sheer power and precision behind the kit, yet he is well attuned to many styles of music that require a feel for grace, focus and improvisation. He also plays many instruments including the Guitar, (mainly on the 7 string) Bass, Bouzouki, Oud and whatever else he can get his hands on. He is currently working on a project called Eturnus with guitarist Alex Bouks of Incantation/ Goreaphobia in which the two are writing on guitar.
In addition to that, he is working on recording an EP for his solo project, AMESA SPENTAS which showcases a much more progressive, technical, odd time, yet very dark and focused sound in which he will be performing all instruments as well as vocals. This project is set to be released sometime toward the end of 2013 with talks of a live lineup which would feature fellow Axis Percussion endorser, Oli Beaudoin on drums with Grosse playing guitar and singing. Stay tuned for more!
“I have really found my footing with Axis Percussion. These pedals really force you to become fully aware of what you are playing. They just can't tell a lie. When I place my foot on the pedalboard, they instantly become part of my body. Using the Ekit triggers during personal practice for certain styles of music helped me to be supremely consistent in the velocity with which I hit the bass drum as well as cleaning up my playing all around and has actually left me not even needing triggers for use in the extreme metal style of drumming. They are amazing for ALL styles of drumming. The old saying comes to mind, Often imitated, NEVER duplicated, Axis really are the best on the  market.”

Tate Cunningham

Tate Cunningham

Born into a small town in Southwest Oklahoma, it seemed from the beginning Tate Cunningham was meant to play music. Studying classical piano from the age of five to fifteen, Tate was laying the ground work for a musical career, ultimately landing him on the drums. In 1998 Tate graduated from high school and landed a full scholarship to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa Oklahoma, majoring in music. There he solely studied percussion and split time between Orchestra, Concert, and Pep bands. In 2001 he met SafetySuit singer Doug Brown, Jeremy Henshaw Bass, and became friends. “We all played in different bands at the time, but Doug had some songs and wanted to play in the battle of the bands last minute. He had some cool songs so I agreed. It was more for fun, or a joke really, but we won! Ive been with them ever since.” The three later added guitarist Dave Garofalo and the rest is history. In 2004 they decided to “go for it” and moved to Nashville where they landed a major deal with Universal Records in 2007. In May of 2008, SafetySuit released their debut album “Life Left To Go.” Their first single “Someone Like You” landed them a top 15 record on Alternative and top 20 on Hot A/C. SafetySuit has been featured on MTV’s “The Hills” on numerous episodes, Kyle XY and was on Vh1’s Top 20 Countdown for 5 weeks, ultimately landing the #1 video.
Currently, Tate and SafetySuit our working on their sophomore album that will drop in the fall of 2010.

mike_smith

Mike Smith

Mike Smith has been drumming for 25 years and is a founding member of New York Death metal pioneers “Suffocation.” Mikes drumming was first introduced to the Extreme metal scene in 1989 on Suffocation’s debut album “Effigy of the forgotten.” On this album he introduced a drumming technique now known throughout the metal community as the “Blast Beat” or “Smith Blast.”  This technique is a main ingredient used in the drumming styles amongst the majority of Extreme metal bands today. His ability to push the boundaries of speed, while combining precision, groove and technicality has influenced a sub genre known today as Technical Death metal. What Mike Smith and his band Suffocation introduced to the scene was the first of its kind and continues to influence the path of many Extreme metal bands across the world today. You can currently catch Mike Smith on tour throughout the U.S. and Europe. Upcoming dates are available on the following websites: www.Suffocation.uswww.myspace.com/Suffocation, www.Blastology.net and www.sickdrummer.com.

Oli Beaudoin

Oli Beaudoin

Oli Beaudoin was born in 1984. He began playing drums at the age of twelve, fooling around in various musical projects until he moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 2000. From that point, he decided to follow the musical guidance of local top drum instructors and dove into different musical genres like jazz, blues, funk and latin to develop his own approach to rock and metal drumming. In 2002, he started working as a private drum instructor as well as playing as a session drummer for several bands in the Montreal area (ETERNAL BURDEN, OVIF, among others).
He formed the alternative metal band STAREBLIND in 2006 and then joined the metalcore formation ENDAST (independent) in 2007 to help support a pan-Canadian tour for the release of their second studio album Odds Against Tomorrow. Things heated for him in 2009, as STAREBLIND (independent) released their first full-length album “Something Left Unexplained”, considered as one of the most innovative Canadian alternative metal albums of 2009. Coming right back from a gig as a percussionist for HOLLAND AMERICA LINE’s cruises to Alaska in the summer of 2009, he parted ways with his original band to join as a full time member the Montreal technical metal formation NEURAXIS (Prosthetic Records). NEURAXIS then entered the studio in early 2010 to record their groundbreaking sixth effort called “Asylon” which was released in February 2011.
After 2 North American 6 and 7-weekers assaults with headliners DEICIDE and SEPULTURA playing for NEURAXIS during spring 2011, Oli left again his home country again in autumn 2011 for a South American raid with Austrian Metal Legends BELPHEGOR (Nuclear Blast Records) just before appearing as a clinician for the MONTREAL DRUMFEST 2011. He then took off right away with Norwegian Stars KEEP OF KALESSIN (Nuclear Blast Records) by the end of Fall 2011 for a North American tour with MAYHEM headlining. To kick things off for 2012, OIi stepped onboard the 70 000 Tons of Metal cruise from Florida to Cayman Islands for Canadian death metal pioneers KATAKLYSM (Nuclear Blast Records) to help secure the line-up.
Oli recently confirmed his involvement with KATAKLYSM for their 11th studio album that should be their most devastating effort to date. He will also be playing as live session drummer both for EX DEO (Napalm Records) and KATAKLYSM for summer 2013, including performances at BLOODSTOCK UK Festival sharing the stage with LAMB OF GOD, SLAYER and KING DIAMOND as headliners and BRUTAL ASSAULT in Costa Rica with CANNIBAL CORPSE headlining. Oli is also currently working on a multi-angle instructional DVD that should be released in early 2014.

Joseph “Joey” Oscar a native of St. Louis, Mo. knew at the youthful age of three, music was permanently embedded into his soul. While growing up, he allowed himself to be groomed by some of the best drummers. Joey was often found at his local church gathering with the band, but with an extra emphasis placed on the drummers. After the passing of his father in 1986, feeling lonely and devastated he turned to music, eager to find comfort and to live out his fathers dream. Throughout the years, Josephs’ spirituality has grown immensely. Moreover, his skills on the drum set have become immeasurable, making him a “Drummer Extraordinaire” and the most sought after and called upon drummer. He has taken music and the art of drumming to the next dimension, while allowing his creativity to manifest itself into what God has ordained it to be.
Joseph long ago, became a born again believer and has given God the reign over his life. His gifts are not limited to music alone, but the calling on his life is far more greater. He is often found saying, “Without God NOTHING is possible!” Josephs’ passion is to be a mentor to kids and minister the word of God not only through music and song, but also through the Word of God.
He is considered to be at the top of his game with no end in sight. Joseph’s spirit is humble and giving and his presence is that of a gentle oddity with a flare for the extraordinary. Joseph has had the pleasure of working with many great men and women of God, nationally as well as internationally. Micah Stampley, Kim Burrell, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Dewayne Woods, Kathy Taylor, James Fortune and FIYA, Ricky Smiley, Denise Williams, Yolanda Adams, Rodney Jerkins just to name a few. Also he’s currently the Producer for Music World. He has even gone abroad while working with Hans Christian in Denmark and other parts Europe as well as Africa. Joseph has garnered accolades from every corner of the music world and has familiarized himself with the business. His professionism has opened the eyes of his peers giving them something to pattern their lives after.
Last, but certainly not least, Joseph is a loving, devoted husband to his wife Christie Oscar and a proud father to his four children Josiah, Isaiah, Elijah and baby Hannah. Joseph is truly grateful for the gifts, talents and abilities that God has trusted him with and he is found daily giving it all back to Him. “To whom much is given, much is required!” Luke 12:48 KJV.
